CBS Channel One traveled to Texas to film a story on Beat the Heat and their efforts to combat illegal street racing. Channel One is a news program that airs at 8,000 middle and high schools across the US and is seen by 6,000,000 students. The program on BTH was aired on April 20, 2010 and is on their website www.channelone.com.
The BTH edition was filmed in conjunction with the kick-off of Texas Motorplex's Fast Friday Street Legal Style Racing event. Beat the Heat President, Lt Tom Brown and BTH West Virginia member Jim Butler conducted school programs at UTI and ATI Technical schools in Dallas, TX and joined 20 BTH Teams at the Motorplex. The event received good media coverage with front page articles in both the Waxahatchie and Ennis, TX newspapers.
The TX Motorplex had a good turn out for the Fast Friday event. It began with a Race Clinic conducted by BTH's Tom Brown. Clinic participants learned about the sport of drag racing...everything from coming in the gate, tech inspection, and how to successfully make a pass down the racetrack. It was a great event where racers challenged Beat the Heat Teams to race legally on the track.
BEAT THE HEAT, INC. is a non-profit corporation recognized as tax
